BUSH FEMA DIRECTOR #1: JOE ALLBAUGH
In the early days of his presidency, George W Bush was charged with
finding the best qualified person to lead the Federal Emergency Management
Agency. He chose his old friend and campaign manager, Joe
Allbaugh. Albaugh was currently tied up defending himself
against the Funeralgate
scandal, a little-known but gruesome corpse abuse scandal that
also involved George W Bush (read
more). After joining FEMA, Bush and Allbaugh's priorities
centered on privatizing FEMA, taking the career experience of civil
service workers and giving those jobs to private corporations. In On
December
16, 2002, Joe Albaugh left FEMA, and although the supposed last-resort
invasion of Iraq was months away, Allbaugh set
up a company to help corporations "take advantage of
business opportunities in the Middle East following the conclusion of the
U.S.-led war in Iraq". He has also since taken
a contract lobbying for Halliburton's Kellogg, Brown, and Root. |
